Gun Control

Gun laws in the United States have been enforced since the Bill of Rights' Second Ammendment implemented in 1991. This Amendment in our Constitution states "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

Although our Constitution states the right to bear arms, no amendment in the constitution has been "absolute" according to The Insider Louisville: http://insiderlouisville.com/news/2012/07/20/guest-blogger-shawn-reilly-shouting-fire-vs-opening-fire-the-constitutional-case-for-greater-gun-control/. Because the constitution is not always followed strictly by law, there have been many new laws restricting gun rights to certain people. The government has created rules and regulations over time such as who can purchase a gun, illegal use penalties, and gun safety. Here is a timeline demonstrating how more gun laws have been acquired over time:

In regards to our presidential candidates’ position on gun rights, both President Obama and Governor Romney are in favor of the Second Amendment and the right for citizens to bear arms. The difference between the two candidates policies are their side on the Assault Weapons Ban. The Assault Weapons Ban will outlaw certain assault weapons like semi-automatic weapons, and take them off the market for American citizens.

Obama has stated he is for the ban after the Aurora shootings over the summer, and believes automatic machine guns should only be for soldiers and not to be sold to American civilians.

“AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers”- Barack Obama

Mitt Romney opposes the Assualt Weapons Ban and that new gun restrictions will restrict the American people from practicing there Second Ammendment Rights. He believes that American civilians have the right to bare these arms for protection. He points out that additional gun restrictions will effect the American gun and ammunition industries economically as well.

Debate #1

My first response to the debate
- can you even change your whole platform the day of the debate?
Mitt Romney did not mention any of his ideas previous the debate for the example the idea of increasing of taxes for the middle class and the decreasing of taxes for the upper class.

Another response to the debate:
- extending from the idea above, I believe that by changing his platform, Romney could have added more supporters to his group of becoming president.

One last response:
- President Obama seemed as if he was ill prepared and uncertain of his platform, but I think that this was him being taken by surprised by Mitt Romney changing up his plan.
